Why do some companies refer to their warranties on cars out of factory coverage as extended service contracts and others, like PORSCHE, call them CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTIES?

The difference is the level of coverage, the pre-sale evaluation of the vehicle by a BRAND-trained technician on the car you are about to buy, and the guarantee your "protection purchase" will cover and therefore PAY FOR the item(s) and labor required to make the car whole.

Only a branded dealership (branded= they sell the car make new as well as service it and sell used cars of the same.) can be CERTIFIED by the Car manufacturer to sell this product.  Not all Porsche Dealerships participate in this program.

When a Porsche dealership CERTIFIES a car with the PORSCHE Certified PRE-OWNED WARRANTY, they are putting their money and business on the line to tell you where-ever you drive your Porsche (in the US and Canada) the dealership will absolutely honor the plan.

The cost is extremely reasonable for the coverage, if you haven't shopped around luxury brand warranties, trust me, I have and they range all the way to $13k on some models.

The cost of a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Warranty is usually included in the selling price of most PORSCHE dealerships, however, with it comes special LOW interest financing that can save you the cost of the warranty over a car sold by some other location.

• The Porsche Approved Certified Pre-owned Program comprises two distinct limited warranty coverage's. 1) The limited warranty covers up to 6 years or a cumulative 100,000 miles/160,000 kilometers, whichever comes first if the vehicle is still under the new car limited warranty. 2) The limited warranty covers 2 years from the date of sale, up to a cumulative 100,000 miles/ 160,000 kilometers from the current mileage on the odometer at the time of purchase.
